Safe Cities Free of Violence against Women and Girls Initiative: Pilot project in Thiruvanathapuram

Crime and violence have become defining characteristics of modern cities. In addition to actual crime, women face the fear of violence, sexual violence and harassment as a constant threat to their general well-being. Violence impoverishes victims and fear of violence structures women's ability to live, inhibits their democratic right to move freely around and work in the city. This is a critical barrier to women's participation in city life.

This is a project where the ultimate goal is to create cities where girls and women are safe and able to access their rights. This is a project in which Sakhi is working in partnership with Jagori New Delhi and is funded by UNIFEM, South Asia Office.
